LEARN TO HUNT AND HANDLE FIREARMS THE RIGHT WAY
Hunter Education Course
Know your gun,
and proper ethics.
HOME STUDY/On-Line COURSE
The on-line course in itself will not get you a valid hunter education certificate.
There are currently several options for you:
- Today’s Hunter - http://www.hunter-ed.com/ca;
- Hunter Course - http://www.huntercourse.com/usa/california;
- Hunter Ed Course – http://hunteredcourse.com/state/online-hunter- safety-course- california;
- IHEA – http://homestudy.ihea.com ;
- IHEA Spanish - http://homestudy.ihea.com/espanol/
These sites have an on-line course that you can run through at your own pace. Once you have completed one of the above on-line courses, you will still need to attend a 4 hour home study/on-line follow-up class with a certified hunter education instructor. The benefit of taking this class is having the ability to study at a pace that works for you and to only have to take a 4 hour follow-up classroom session versus a 10+ hour class.
(The on-line sites each charge a small fee that varies with each site)
Hunter Education Class Pre-Registration is FREE and required to register for any Hunter Education course that begins after January 1, 2016. Pre-registration ensures the student will be able to purchase a hunting license immediately upon successful completion of a Hunter Education course.
You must be at least 18 years old to access and complete pre-registration using the Online License System.
Information required for pre-registration:
Date of birth, address, phone number, physical characteristics and valid ID number (i.e., driver's license, military ID, etc.). For juveniles without a valid ID, a parent / guardian ID is required.
Go to: https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Hunter-Education for details and to register for a class. Once Pre-Registered, scroll down and find the class you are interested in attending and select and complete the registration process. No certificate can be issued unless you have completed the Pre-Registration process.
Students are required to bring a Certificate of Completion from one of the above listed courses to participate and take the exam.
